Nanny payroll services

Hire a nanny and you become an employer in HMRC’s eyes – with a PAYE scheme, payslips, pension duties and statutory pay obligations exactly like a business. A whole sub-industry of nanny payroll bureaus exists to handle this for families.

What makes nannies payroll different

  • Always agree gross pay. Net-pay agreements leave the family absorbing every tax-code change and student-loan deduction. Agree gross; the take-home calculator shows the nanny what that means in hand.
  • You cannot pay cash-in-hand. A nanny is almost never legitimately self-employed; misclassification lands the liability on the family.
  • Pension auto-enrolment applies. Earnings over £10,000 trigger enrolment with a 3 percent employer contribution on qualifying earnings.
  • Specialist bureaus. Services such as Nannytax/Stafftax and Payroll for Nannies (both Brighton-based, serving the whole UK) handle registration, payslips, pension and even employment contracts for roughly £15 – £25 a month.

What to look for in a provider

A nanny-specialist bureau is nearly always better value than a generalist: the price includes employer registration, HMRC correspondence and contract templates that a standard bureau charges extra for.

Pricing follows the wider market – see what outsourcing costs (£4 – £10 per employee per month fully managed) – but sector add-ons matter more than the headline rate, so always compare like-for-like quotes.
